Replacing water pump
The electric water pump broke down. Not a good thing when you live on a boat and have no manual backup. So I quickly had to replace it with a new one before the lockdown really prevents anything from happening. This is what we have:
While I was picking up my serviced life-jackets at Solas Marine in Dun Laoghaire, there happened to be a pump available. Maybe a bit too powerful for what I need, but waste not want not. As you can see in the photo above the pump was literally hanging by one screw, this was rather unacceptable to me. Having some hardwood available from a 2m long piece I made a new rack so I could properly put it up by all 4 screws:
This was a type of pump that didn’t need to be primed, i.e. you don’t have to fiddle filling it with water before it can pump from the tank. But it didn’t pump well, it had lots of air in it so when you ran the tap the water spat everywhere. The trick is to make sure that the clamps on any hose are really tight. Now it works like a charm!
